This isn't a review, it's only pretending to be.
It's a blog about a boy who wants to grow up to design the Perfect MMO.

Two of those, the rather iffy looking ones, were taken in the Orc starting area, one of the earliest developed areas in the game. So of course they're gonna to be a little subpar.
The areas in the newest expansion area simply gorgeous, with some very awesome looking skyboxes throughout. Not to mention that the weapons and armor have some really fancy shading effects to them.
Nonetheless, the graphics are a good reason of it's accessibility. It's something Blizzard's been known for: Trying to avoid the high-end area of graphics so more people can enjoy their products.

Remember though: he did buy all three campaigns (!), so it doesn't matter what he thinks or how misguided he is, the money is already in Anet's hands.
So who cares?
I do wonder though: what kind of idiot would shell out 70 quid for three linked games upfront..and then discover they don't like them?
Surely buying Prophecies and actually PLAYING it would've been more useful and economical.

Well I remember Walmart having all three for 40 bucks at one point, so maybe he was just like "oh what the hell."
Nonetheless I've been seeing them go pretty cheap at everywhere else.

Now now guys, he is likely used to playing Final Fantasy games where the graphics are just uber and instead of little red and blue bars a little guy in a pointy hat comes out, waves his wand in the air, and casts Cure and the numbers go UP! Who needs silly bars! Gah the nerve of game designers!
/sarcasm
As far as the community boards go, he must have been on a guild board of sorts where people post pics of themselves and talk about the muzik they like.
>_>
If the poor soul thinks GW is chunky then he obviously hasn't seen EQ *sighs* It makes my eyes hurt watching my brother get all excited about his uber blocky weapons -_-

The reviewer evidently missed the irony of stating:

Unfortunately, this saddened me to see such a huge and thriving community so involved in such a mediocre, standard game.
|
Gee, lots of people enjoying a game. Um, uh, what exactly is a game for, if not that? In short, a rather clueless review by a rather clueless reviewer.

QFT.
The mere fact that he identifies himself as an aspiring game designer discredits this review. Real Game designers don't play games and then write blogs about how they suck. They make games that are better instead.

I'd also think that given the fact that the thought the community was "nice" that he didn't get much farther than level 5.

That in itself is a guaranteed road to disappointment.

The game boasted beautiful landscapes and great graphics. But when I played it, I was disappointed. Yes, it was significantly better aesthetically than the free mmo’s out there, but this was a major title game.

Ok so I have an entirely different view on the graphics. Actually before I got involved with guild wars (places the biggest noob hat on her head possible) I sat down with my boyfriend who plays all sorts of mmos and tried to decide on what one I would start playing. Not really being a gamer myself at that point I picked the one that was most visually appealing. The graphics in guild wars were breathtaking. So I started playing guild wars because it was pretty lol. But then again I didn't turn the graphics on low
Back then I prolly wouldn't have given Guild Wars a raving review because I didn't have as much knowledge about the game. I don't think its this guys fault he didn't like it. Until you delve deeper and get a better over all picture the game can seem pretty boring. I had many "oooooooohhhh!!! Now I get it." points during my first few months of playing. However, it is his fault for publishing the review without an entire understanding for the game :-p lol.
I think the whole article itself speaks to the fact he never played the game enough to make an informed review. As much as I love guild wars I can see how someone could make a review about things that need to be changed or altered in the game but the things this guy brought up were just so crazy. No need to make anymore quotes as its been quoted to pieces lol.

These forums are biased. You like the game and that is all that matters, your not gunna say a game you like is crap but someone else will. Yes that wasnt a big enough review for a MMO thats why you should'nt take any notice, doing so is just wasting your time, go play guild wars.

WoW...I've spent 4500+ hours playing a game that got a bad review, guess I wasted all that time having fun.
Given that I am no where near the high end of hours spent playing GW I would sugest that the review was done by a person that spent less than 4hours playing or just has no clue what makes a great game to begin with.

you're actually saying those are better graphics than GW? You just like flashy glowy weapons. The graphics are still blocky & dated.

The new weapons in gear do have a higher poly count than previous WoW creations. And there's still the quality shading effects on the weapons too, not something that can be shown in a screenshot.
The bows also have strings on them, I forgot to mention.

You even had to manage the red bar and blue bar (some sort of health and magic point displays).

The definition of epic failure..

WoW fanboy strikes again. Must you insert this stuff in every thread here? You know, there are probably a couple other sites that would be more conducive to your WoW fanboyism--like a WoW site maybe?

I don't think any MMO or MMO-alike deserves that great a rating at the end of the day, because they are what they are... dumbed down gameplay with a 'casino drop' aspect to try to keep people hooked. Guild Wars is not above that at all. In the future though inevitably some cool devs will start making gameplay centric MMO's more deserving of kudos and great review scores.
